Forty-Six with a nest of stix!

Talk about times of change.........
As I mentioned before today is my 46th birthday
and it is also the day that my baby boy,Gabriel...actually age 23
IS MOVING OUT!!!

He is very excited and has planned it all out very well over the past few months.
He will move closer to work and in a nice, new house.
I support his decision 100% as he needs his own place now.
But, I'd be lie'n if I said it isn't hard for me.
I have known for quite some time now that I've been living on borrowed time.....
where having Gabe still at home with me is concerned.

He did give me the sweetest card this morning.....because he is the sweetest son ever! But, then...Josh is too.

Now I will experience the "empty nest syndrome" I suppose.
Just another stage in life....

Though it won't be too long now before G-Baby Girl comes onto the scene!

Now begs the question,"What to do with all the extra space!!????!!!"

It hit me too.....that tonight will be the very first night in mine and Do's entire MARRIED LIFE that we will actually live at home alone! JUST THE TWO OF US!
Since Joshua was six months old when we got married.
I used to Pure-T "dream" about the day that we would have our home all to ourselves.
Now it seems so much different than my very young mind imagined all those years ago.
Twenty-six next Saturday...to be exact.

The Friday After........

Today is the day after Thanksgiving!
Wooooo-hoo.....
It was fun,but am happy to have it behind us now.

And what an exciting week it has been for me.......
First of all,Do had to go back to Charlotte this week for more school with Ford.
You would think that a master technician with 35 years under his belt would not be required to endure such nonsense, but NOOOOO that's Ford for 'ya.
gotta keep up with that stupid paperwork.
I stayed behind this go 'round as there was another fellow that needed to travel with Davey.
A nutt case. and I am being quite kind here!
It is really funny how he pushed each and every button Davey has to his name and he had to take it all in stride. Way to go,Do!

Meanwhile, back on the home front....
I invited Leigh-Ann { my adopted daughter} to spend the night with me and my two dogz. Allowing her the freedom to bring her own canine bitch,"Lady."
Lady is a doberman/german shepherd mix and LA has done a remarkable job in obedience training with her.
Josh even came by to eat the lasagna I cooked for him and brought Duke.
Josh was even impressed as to how well LA has done with training Lady. And considering that is what he does...he would know.
They were a delight to have.
This is not something that could be "pulled off" had Do been home So, I took advantage of the situation and oh,what a "Three Dog Night!"
LA and I shared a lovely bottle of wine and just spent some good ole quality time together while she is off school for the holidayz.
A time rarely spent since the days that she lived with us many years ago.
I am so proud of the fine young woman she is and still strives to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She will make some fine young man a wonderful mate one day......though I doubt anyone but my baby son will be good enough for her! Too bad....they are cousins.
Something we had no clue of when we first met! That story yet to be written.

Soooooo Tuesday afternoon LA left to be with her "real" family. They were headed to their beach home for TG.
I thought it would be a good idea to have Ellie-Mae over for the night....since she had yet to meet "Poe-Poe" and Do was away still.
This would give me a chance to socialize them all while not racking Do's nerves too severely.
Sooooo I go pick up Ellie and bring her here....a 2 mile trip both ways.
The very second that she walks in the door and she and Poe-Poe see one another....
THEY INSTANTLY FALL IN LOVE!!!
It was the funniest thing ever.
The only irritating factor was that I was exhausted from long night before with LA and was desperate to rest.....all the while Poe-Poe is trying to mate with Ellie!
This went on for three hours before I finally got them to settle down for the night.
Once they got past that...the next a.m. they played with smiles on faces until both were literally exhausted.
Another "Three Dog Night!"
Then,ofcourse, Wednesday is cook-off time......
Davey didn't get back until 9 P.M. As Charlotte is 3 hours away and that day being the very busiest travel day of the year.
I cooked the turkey for the family gathering and had it ready around 1:00 a.m.Along with some homemade cranberry sauce that rocked...if I must say so,myself!
Davey had retired around 11:30 and since I was still cooking and quite "wired" by now....I decided to phone my sister,Becky, in San Francisco. Something I never tire of being able to do!!
We talked an hour or two.....

Now, today is the black Friday craze that for soooooo many years I was caught up in.
My daddy,Laura,{my litle sis} and me would venture out at the crack of dawn { unlike those who camp outside the stores these dayz} and off we went to "shop 'till we drop"
calling ourselves,"Cash,Check and Charge!"
Daddy had a tendency to be very rude to anyone in his path and loved to spend money.
The short version is that he ruined any chance of me ever enjoying shopping again after his death in 2000.
And you could not pay be any amount of money to go out there and shop today!
So, here I sit.
Laura will be by to visit soon.
Then.......
tomorrow I get to turn 46.
46!?!
Me? 46!?!
Yes...and loving it.....

I'm Back!

It's been several weeks since I have posted here....
Much has taken place in those weeks too.
I had surgery to remove an axilla mass.
It was indeed benign as all the others have been too.
MEN1 is the root cause.
It was a bit more painful than I had hoped for due to the sensitive location, but well now.

Unfortunately, I now have an abcessed tooth!UGH.....must get antibiotics asap.

The day after the election I received a phone call from my sister telling me of a little dog someone had dumped off on her country road.
He is a Min-Pin/Chihuahua mix.
I told her to bring him to me! Which she did....
I named him POTUS because of the election and call him,"POE-POE"
in honor of Josh. hahaha
He is very sweet and has knitted in our family very well.
Davey is especially fond of small dogs.
Poe-Poe is missing his front, bottom teeth and I hate to think how this may have happened to him.
He will surely be treated like a prince around here!!

Last week-end we had a nice BBQ at The J's......
Mr. and Mrs. Smith came too.
I took some really good pictures tht evening.
Getting a photo of Gabe is very, very difficult!
I must admit that he comes by that quite honestly because I was that ay for a very long time.
Until I decided "to heck with it".

My birthday is coming soon.....two weeks from today I will be forty-six. wow.
I have often wondered how old I would be when I became a grandmother. Now I know.

The autumn is my favorite time of the year.
The trees are extraordinary!
Though some terrible storms and tornadoes came thru N.C. last night and wreaked havoc on some communities!
Homes were destroyed and lives were lost.
Oh, the day inwhich we live.
Maranantha,King Jesus!!!

Zig-Zag'n N.C.

I'm home!

Last week Davey and I went to Charlotte to the Ford training school.
They require this ever so often.
His class was Mon-Fri. from 9-5.
This was extremely technical stuff!!
Blew my mind day after day....and I am smarter than the average bear.
After a long week of trial and spiritual warfare.....Davey passed the test! PTL.

I spent the dayz in a hotel room reading and watching movies.
Got a new book while there that I highly recommend.
"Three Cups of Tea" By: Greg Mortinson and David Oliver Relin.

Our hotel was very near the Douglas International Airport.
I love to fly and love to watch planes coming and going!
That was fun.

Davey had never eaten at a Cracker Barrel!?!
All these years I have kept telling him how much he would love the place.
It is right up his alley in every way!
Well, there was one directly across the street from our hotel...so we ate there three out of five nights.
I suspect he will be frequenting the one closest to his job from here on.

The leaves have only barely begun to change here.
If it had been later in October the trip down to Charlotte would have been extraordinary in colors, but was still nice.

The trip home was full of evening traffic as we did not get out of his class until four o'clock.
We arrived home a bit after 8 p.m. I literally came in the front door and went right back out the rear door to join Gabe in yet another road trip to Topsail Island.
There we joined The J's for a week-end beach trip.
They took the boat and it was lovely!
No dogs. No phones ringing. No obnoxious neighbors partying into the wee hours.
Just peace and quiet.
We stayed in the police chiefs cottage.
A pretty place.

I rode home with The J's and we returned around 8:30 last night to a very happy pair of bull dogs!
I am glad to be back home now.
I will see the surgeon tomorrow morning for a pre-op.
Need to have the lypomna tumor from under my arm removed.
Then on to the Endocrinologist.......

Josh and Duke are training with drugs this week.
Officer Duke is a very smart canine and is working out very well except he is a bit dog aggressive.
The other dog...a Belgium Mali nous bit Josh in the leg during Fridays training session! Oh,well....just goes with the territory.
This dog was bought from Holland and just arrived last Thursday.
Good dog!

Jonna had her monthly check-up with the Ob/Gyn this a.m.
She said that late Saturday night..while laying in bed....."Baby Girl" kicked the mess out of her!!! LOL But, Josh was asleep...Ofcourse.
Plenty time left for him to see/feel that.
I can hardly wait to meet her face-to-face,but have much to do to prepare for her arrival.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

The phone call finally came from Joshua......
My dreams are coming true. Literally.
IT'S A BABY GIRL!!!!!!!

Must understand that my brother, sister and me each have two sons and zero daughters.
Thus, my Ma' has six grandsons and no granddaughters.

This is gonna be one very loved....over-protected little girl!

God bless Jonna for bringing such joy to our family.
She is a very special lady.

Go,Momma Jonna,Go!

Baby Boy or Baby Girl!???!

Well.....
The J's are at the obstetrician at this very moment!
The excitement is building rather rapidly as I wait to hear if my first grandchild is male or female.

The Lord works in mysterious ways.....
Joshua was not going to be able to go wih Jonna this morning to her Dr. appointment due to police duties. Class actually.
Jonna was understandably disappointed.
So...Josh shows up to class early this a.m. only to be told that some paperwork had not come thru and he was not to be in that class today!
Soooooo he is able to go with J afterall!!!
What a blessing.

Blowout VS Blow Over

When? Oh, when will I learn?
I hate to wear shoes while at home.
Even outdoors.
Due to this I break toes!
Have not broken one in many years right up until Friday afternoon.....
Hanna was heading our way.
Clouds were gathering and the rain misting,so I decided to take down the screen gazaebo, myself.
All went well with the gazaebo.
But......inside was a large,wooden table.
It needed to go inside the garage.
This would have been a good time to put on some shoes!
But NOOOOOOO.
I picked the table up....began walking towards to door and suddenly the middle leaf slid down, hit my knees....down my left shin bone and smack dab onto my toe!
Crrrack! Ouch and a few curse words later I had it in some ice water.
Which by the way does a much better job than just plain ice.
This was new newz to me from my oldest son.
So, I taped the broken toe to it's neighboring digit and the two buddies will share the strain for a little while.
Hanna was not even enough here to compare to a thunderstorm!
I am glad.
She did drop quite a bit of rain on our fair state.
Roads flooded. Some with snakes! UGH. That poor newz reporter!
The wind never even got strong enough to knock down any of my bird feeders.
All of the preparedness is good for the next go 'round though.
I am feeling concern for my e-mail buddies in the gulf!!
yIKEs....... If Ike carries the water of hurricane Floyd { hit us in 99} and the wind of hurricane Fran { hit us in 96...worst thing I have EVER seen!}
Then that will be catastophic.
God, have Mercy!

Yesterday... The J's decide to buy a brand new bedroom suit.
A very nice one...I might add.
So, Do and me go over last night to help them remove the old stuff and replace it with the new.
Do works on Saturdays so he was already exhausted when he got home around 4:00.
I was proud of him for his willingness to help anyway.
We cooked on the grill all at the same time and Davey ate around 10:45!
What a blow out....LOL
I then brought him home to crash.
The J's were still headed back out to WM for more needed items.
Today we will fill in the blanks.

Tomorrow morning Jonna will be told the sex of the baby!!! WOOO-Whooo!

H.....I.....J...!!!

Hanna,Ike,Josephine.....
For goodness sake!
We are and have been preparing for a storm or storms to hit us.
I have felt very strongly in my spirit that we will be hit hard by atleast one.
I have learned to trust this.
I THINK that hurricane IKE will be the problem and we are pray, pray, pray'n for that stink'n thing to drown in the sea. LOL
My sister and me had plans to camp at the lake today and tomorrow.
So much for that.
May end up camping over at my Ma's though.

I had the most wonderful phone time with BOTH of my sisters last night!
I called Becky in San Francisco to tell her that I sent her a large package in the mail.
It contains the Bible she was given in 1961, our deceased brothers Bible, a large framed family photo taken in the early 90's,some other framed photos and jewelry.
It feels so good to be able to send her these gifts after all these years.
Just as she and I began talking Laura beeped in...so we had a three way conversation.
What a blessing!!! I just can not say how much......

Gabe got his commercial drivers license yesterday.
Goooooo Gabe!
His job includes such driving along with silversmithing.....very cool.
Josh had that position prior to going into Law Enforcement.

Josh is at the coast right now.....yes,the coast! Helping friends from the dept. evacuate homes and businesses. Oh,Boy....run from Hanna.....
The Govorner keeps coming on the T.V. with new details for today.
I need to go outside and take down our screen gazeabo. UGH.
It should be going with me to the lake right now.....
Oh, well.
Soon.
It will be tree heaven soon anyway.

I'm practically holding my breath till Monday at which time Jonna will be told the sex of the baby. OHHHHHHH...... I can NOT wait.
Josh and Duke begin their new K-9 school Monday too.
Bet this is one looonnnggg week-end.......

September rocks!

It is already September!
One of my favorite months.
Add the Jewish new year......
Labor Day week-end was nice.
The weather?? perfect!
Filled with garden chores and outdoor B-B-Q's.
We went over to The J's Monday evening for cookout.
Gabe, who rarely ever lets me take his photo was caught here.
He gets that "not wanting his pic made" thing from me...I am sure. So, I have only myself to blame.
But, he is drop-dead-gorgeous! and does not know it. Or maybe he does?? LOL
Dinner was a delight.
Davey decided to destroy a wasp nest that had moved onto The J's deck.
Just the nest though......wasps were EVERYWHERE! And not too happy about their absent abode!!
Josh..who broke a tooth while on duty...still decided we would give the boat a drink of water in Harris Lake the next morn'n.
He,Davey and me hit the water around 7:30 Tuesday a.m.
A wonderful way to spend a Tuesday morn!
My camera was down....much to Josh's delight...so I was unable to take shots that were stunning.Soon the autumn leaves will become breathtaking around here and I will be in tree heaven!
No fish were mistreated during this adventure as they were all far too smart to be snagged!LOL

I am feeling deep in my spirit that we need to prepare for a hard hit storm.
Ofcourse, we will pray against it.....yet be ready!
Confirmation came to me via dream this morning.
The day we live in.......Matthew 24 in a nutshell.

Baby Smiths' very first photo

This is my precious G-Baby to be!
This was taken some weeks ago.
Another photo is scheduled to be taken on September the eighth at which point the sex of the baby will be determined.
OHHHHHH THE JOY!!!!!!!
J said yesterday that right now he or she is about the size of a turnip.
I love turnips even more now.....

The storms that come our way.....

Rain,rain and more rain!
Tropical storm "Faye that won't go away" has hit our region today.
There are tornados threatening us all around.
All my "Men" have been in line with atleast one this morning.
As is my younger sister now.
Thank-you,Father for your divine protection and your Holy angels that you have charged concerning us.
Speaking of sisters.....
I just got off the phone with my long, lost sister,Becky.
She is living in San Francisco now.
It has been 15 yrs. since I have seen her.
Well......atleast until I received this photo in the mail last Wednesday.
I cried for hours.
Some tears of joy combined with sadness.
Becky sort of "left" the family 15 plus yrs. ago.
No word.WHATSOEVER!
Our oldest brother,Wayne, died suddenly in 1996.
We had high hopes that the social security administration would notify her.
They said that it was a good possibility, but that they could not confirm nor deny....
Well, year after year we prayed and searched and prayed and searched.
About five years ago we got hold of an address in S.F. and began sending cards, letters and photos....still no response.
Turns out it was not her.
This year....on Saturday,March 29, 2008 I was surfing the web for old classmates....
After a good while I just typed in yellowpages.com WHY???? I do not know!!!
Well, I DID not know......
Almost without thought I typed in my sisters' name and low and behold....
Her name, address and phone number popped up!
I could not believe my eyes...to say the very least.
I said to myself and my little min pin friend who was in my lap,"Well,I just need to pray!"
I started to pray and instantly realized that there was just nothing left TO pray.
I had covered it all in prayer millions of times before.
"Just dial the number" I said to myself.
"What do you have to lose? It either IS or IS NOT her."
I dialed the number....palms sweating......
12:00 noon on the east coast for me.....9:00 a.m on the west.
"Hello?" the voice said......
"May I speak to Becky?" I asked.
"This is she......."
"My name is Barbara Smith and I am calling from North Carolina.
I am looking for my sister,Becky, any chance this is her?" I asked.
"Hey,Barbara!......how did you find me? I am sick."
I was in total shock!
I could hardly believe my ears.
"Is this really YOU!!!??????!!!!" I said to her.

That day will forever be remembered with me.
All the dreams I had of talking to her and catching up were suddenly....with one Holy spirit inspired phone call....coming true.
I have three way calling,so we called everyone in the family!
Now we have talked a hundred hours and I am sooooooo grateful to God for His timing.
We have seen the power of prayer in this area provide blessing upon blessing.
I am planning to go out and see her face to face as soon as The Lord says,"GO!"

Feeling a bit Blue

I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday a.m. for my bi-monthly
triggerpoint injections.
I got one closer to the spine than usual and boy-oh-boy has it been hurting me!!
I did not sleep well inspite of the painkillers and today have just been feeling a bit blue.
So, I look at this picture hanging in my bedroom and try to remind myself that spiritual life is not based on how I "feel" but rather on The Word of God!
Thank God for Jesus.......

K-9 'Duke!"

Meet K-9 Officer,"Duke."
Josh's new partner.
Isn't he a handsome fellow?
The J's and friends spent the entire week-end building his home.
Only the finest for the finest.

It has been brought to my attention that I have yet to write about the fact
that I am about to be a grandmother for the first time!!!
Due Feb.1st 2009.
Sooooooooo very excited...I am,I am!
They are to determine the sex of said child on Sept. 8th.
Go,J,Go!
At which time I will be writing much more I am sure.

K-9 'Duke!"

Searching for a Min Pin

It has become somewhat frustrating in my search for a Min Pin.
Ibit....my dearly departed friend....left a hole in my heart that I knew would come!
She did not belong to me,but to my next door neighbor.
They are of a different culture and do not put the same value on the pets
that my conscience demands.
Ibit, that's what I called her, would come in my house at night and sleep with me.
Her family did love her too,but never kept her confined.
On my husbands' 50th b-day.....April 11th 08....Ibit was hit by a car and died in my arms! OHHHH the agony.
She is buried with the others in my back yard.
One Shar-Pei.....one Rottweiller, one cat and her.
I never thought I needed a small dog.
I am a big dog,horse type woman.....
But,Ibit showed me that I do,indeed, need a Min Pin.
Have been searching Craigs List and Pet finder and adoption places, but so far nothing.
I know in my heart that The Lord will provide the perfect pet in His time.
Afterall, I do not want one outside of His will.
Been-there-done-that-had the sons face stiched up!

Late night cookout

Had a nice time at The J's last night!
It was cool enough outside for me to wear a sweater with my shorts.
Met Josh's new K-9 partner for the first time.
A beauty of a dog.
Pictures were too dark to post.
Will get more today,maybe.
One of Josh's good friends and one of Fuquays' finest dropped by all badged up.
Davey seemed to be in a better mood.
It was fun.

"Do"

People often ask me why I call my husband,Davey,"Do."?
I "Do" not know hahaha
I just "Do".LOL

Getting started

Well......
I've gotten some photos up now.
Much easier than I had anticipated.
I see where this can become addictive!
Oh....the endless possibilities.
Thanx,Diana!

A new beginning starts today......

Today I begin blogging!

I new friend in Florida has inspired me to do so.

So here I go........

A pretty calm Saturday.

Davey..that is my husband....is working as he does each Saturday.

Mondays he is off work.

No one here except me, my dog,Roxie, my cat,Smitty, and the beta fish. His name is King.

Davey calls him,"Sam" Sam-e-nella!

But his name is King.

My grandpup,Ellie-Mae went home last night.

She is an English Bull dog and a complete joy in my life!!

My son is a K-9 police officer and his beautiful wife is a critical care nurse.

When they both work nights Ellie spends the night with me.

We always camp.

But, I did get a bit "dog'd out" this week.

Am having lots of pain.

Will go for trigger point injections Monday a.m.

Thank God for Dr. Sinclair!

She is wonderful.

She has taken good care of me for well over six years now.

I need to work more on this new blog.....

Much to learn, but just getting started is fun.
